John Atkins, John Atkins Consulting, Independent & BTSR Validation Team Lead Consultant

John Atkins has been involved in education and training consultancy since 1989. He was a core member of the PricewaterhouseCoopers education consultancy team through the early nineties, and then a Director of Education Advisory Services for KPMG. Since 2001 John has built up an independent education consultancy practice and, as part of this, has supported BTSR in its self-assessment reviews for three years. In addition to his work for BTSR, John maintains an interest in the funding of education and training from both public and private funds and has advised a number of Government bodies both in the UK and overseas as to the most effective use of resources to support both academic and employment-based learning.

Andrew Chitty, Managing Director, Illumina Digital

Andrew has been a pioneer in the converging worlds of TV and digital media since the mid 90s when, as Editor of BBC2's The Net, he was responsible for the BBC's first website and virtual world. Since 1998 he has built Illumina Digital into the UK's leading cross-platform production company winning a raft of awards including 4 BAFTAS, 8 RTS Awards, The UN Award for e-learning - and even a Golden Ladle for the world's best cookery site! In 2008 Illumina joined All3Media, the UK's largest independent production group. Andrew has been active in policy and industry groups, co-authoring OFCOM's paper New Options for Public Service in the Digital Age and advised Lord Carter as a member of the ministerial steering board for the Digital Britain Report. He is a council member of PACT, trustee of TRC Media in Glasgow and a past board member of Skillset. Andrew is currently the Chair of the National Skills Council for Digital Media and visiting professor at University College Falmouth.

Laura Clarke, Indie Training Fund

As Fund Director, Laura Clark oversees the strategic direction of the Indie Training Fund. She works closely with the Trustees to ensure that ITF delivers and funds quality, value for money training for the indie sector. Before running ITF, Laura was Head of Skills at Pact. The Indie Training Fund is a charity that funds and delivers training for the UK independent television and digital media production sectors. Established, funded and run by member companies, ITF provides in-company training and consultancy, plus short courses around the UK. ITF also makes major grants to Skillset, the TV Freelance Fund and the National Film and Television School.

Alice Dudley, TV Manager, Skillset

Alice is the TV Fund Manager at Skillset, managing the TV Freelance Fund, a pot of money contributed to by all the UK's broadcasters and independent production via the ITF. Alice works with industry and training providers to ensure freelancers working in television have access to the most up-to-date and relevant training for a subsidised rate. Alice has previously managed projects to help over 70 indies develop and grow their companies, and previously worked at the Strategic Development Unit at the UK Film Council and BFI.

Mike has worked at senior levels in the UK, US and mainland Europe for 6 major organisations including Rowntree, Unilever and Hewlett Packard. In 1993, he formed the Leading Edge Forum with the London Business School. Joan Keevill, Designs on Learning Ltd

Joan Keevill set up her leadership development and e-learning consultancy, Designs on Learning Ltd, in 2008. Previously she worked at BBC Training & Development for eight years, latterly as Lead Learning Consultant and 'rapid' e-learning producer. She researched the BBC's Creative Future People Strategy and developed and delivered 'Stress: a manager's toolkit' - an organisational stress management workshop across the BBC from 2006 - 08. She produced the award winning 'Leadership Essentials Online', a 24-part leadership development e-learning package. She has an MA in Management Learning and Leadership and is an accredited facilitator. Francis Marshall, Joint Managing Director, Cegos UK

Francis joined Cegos UK, part of Europe’s largest learning and development organisation in 2001. He was promoted to the role of Joint Managing Director in 2003 and sole Managing Director in 2008. In addition to his responsibilities as MD, Francis is an NLP practitioner and is active as a senior level consultant within the fields of management, leadership and executive coaching. Francis has many years’ experience helping companies to grow through training, management development and change management programmes.

Before joining Cegos, Francis worked for over 20 years for Barclays Bank in a wide variety of management and leadership roles, where he covered all aspects of financial services from business management to sales and operations. He has significant experience of leading large business units. His final position in Barclays was Group Deputy Director for Quality, responsible for integrating the EFQM Business Excellent Framework into business as usual activities.

Jane Massy is the UK's most experienced ROI practitioner. She has been working as an evaluator in the domain of learning and development since 1993. Since 2006, Jane has been the CEO of abdi ltd, the sole UK partner of the ROI Institute. Since then the consultancy has used the ROI methodology together with other planning and measurement models in client contracts and taught several hundred individuals and many tens of organisations the methodology through in-house and open-booking workshops and coaching. Claire McCartney, Resourcing and Talent Planning Adviser, CIPD

Claire McCartney joined the CIPD in 2008. She is responsible for research, exploring different aspects of effective talent management strategies, and manages the Institute's Resourcing and Talent Forum. Before she joined the CIPD, Claire was Principal Researcher at Roffey Park. There she conducted research projects and wrote Roffey Park's annual Management Agenda Survey and reports and articles about Work-Life Balance, Flexible Working, Employee Volunteering, Talent Management and Diversity. Claire has also worked with a range of clients on tailored research needs and consultancy projects.

Kate O’Connor, Deputy Chief Executive, Skillset

Kate O’Connor is Executive Director and Deputy CEO of Skillset, the Sector Skills Council for the Creative Media Industries. Her role is to establish and oversee the organisation's approach to policy and development working in conjunction with industry and across UK Government and its public agencies. Kate was the founding member of staff at Skillset in 1992. Previously she worked as the Test Development Manager at City and Guilds of London Institute. There she managed a small consultancy team with an extensive employer client base. Before that, Kate worked in the Department for Employment in various roles connected to training and skills policy. Kate is a Board Member of Capital Quality Ltd, a major London based consultancy, Investors in People and quality assessment centre; she also represents the industry on many consultative and policy advisory committees.

Laura Overton, Managing Director, Towards Maturity

Towards Maturity is a not for profit organisation that provides research and online resources to help organisations deliver effective learning intervention at work.

Laura is the co-author of 'Driving Business Benefits' (09) and 'Towards Maturity' (07) - two studies with over 500 organisations into effective e-learning practices in the workplace. She is also the author of 'Linking Learning To Business' - one of the first studies with both organisations and learners looking at good practice of successful implementations (Jan 04).

Laura is a founding ambassador for Next Generation Learning @ Work, a national initiative in the UK backed by Becta to promote the effective use of technology in learning, training and development in the workplace, colleges and schools.

With over 2 decades of experience of implementing learning technologies in the workplace, she works with government policy makers representing employer interests and has contributed to initiatives associated with the European Commission, the UK's Learning and Skills Council (LSC) and Becta both in her current organisation and as a member the original advisory board to the LSC.

Laura is a Fellow of the Institute of IT training and of the British Institute of Learning and Development and is a popular industry commentator.

Donald H Taylor is chairman of the Learning and Skills Group, Europe's foremost association for workplace learning and development professionals. With over two decades' experience in L&D and IT, he is a widely published and respected thinker in the field, with a focus on the ways technology can be used to support learning. Formerly a non-executive director at talent management software provider InfoBasis, Donald took internet start up SkillServer from concept to trade sale in the early 2000s.
