The L&D Conference 2008

The conference took part at BAFTA, on the 7th October 2008

[Stephen Whittle - BTSR] It was very clear from the work that BTSR has done with the industry over the last 3 years that one of the emerging themes is the people who work in Learning and Development value communication, value the sharing of ideas and that’s what this conference is really all about.

[Jo Taylor - Channel 4] I came along because I actually believe passionately, that developing creative talent is our role and responsibility not only as a publisher/broadcaster but actually to create debate.

[Josie Barton - BBC] I came along for two reasons primarily, one to support BTSR but also to learn.

[Dan Kerkel - QVC] I hope to learn and share some best practices, and also network with people.

[Peter Hallard - ITV] There are lots of conferences that people can get out to but very rarely is there an opportunity to come along to a conference that is devoted specifically to your industry.

[Carmel O'Kane - Bauer Radio] L&D is really high up on our organisation’s agenda, but probably more than that it is a really good opportunity to meet with people who work in L&D or H&R in the broadcast field.

[Peter Hallard] I think there is something quite motivational about a day like today as well.

[Judy Goldberg - Discovery Communications Europe] It’s opened up the possibilities of understanding, number one the media industry and the broadcast industry in general, some of the challenges that not only we at Discovery face, but I think also understanding the challenges the smaller companies face.

[Jo Taylor] I think the most important thing about Learning and Development is nurturing and developing talent.

[Dave Spinks - ITV Productions] and unless you’ve got, you know, technically competent, satisfied people working for you, you ain’t going to survive.

[Stephen Whittle - BTSR] Well we are very encouraged by who's come and indeed the fact that they’ve come not only to listen which they have been doing very intently but also they have been engaging in a lot of conversation with each other as well as asking the occasional sharp question of the contributors.

[Alex Gerlis - BBC College of Journalism] A really good idea to get people together, but really go for it next year and look at what the issues are and what are the emerging concerns and try and get ahead of the game.
